High Post Screen & Drive
Description

This simple sideout play will help get the ball inbounds and may give you the opportunity to score with a secondary pick-and-roll.

Play Setup
  • Player 3 is the inbounder.
  • Player 2 starts on the ball-side at about the depth of the inbounds location.
  • Player 1 starts at the same depth as player 2 but on the other side of the court.
  • Players 4 and 5 form a double-stack on the ball-side low block with player 5 being lower than 4.

  • Player 3 is the inbounder and starts the play's execution by yelling "Go!" and slapping the ball.
  • Player 2 turns and sets a solid screen for player 1.
  • Player 1 rubs off of player 2's screen and receives the inbound pass from player 3.
  • Player 5 flashes from the low post on the inbound side up to the elbow to set a screen for player 1.
  • Player 1 uses player 5's screen and drives to the basket if the lane is open. If both his defender and player 5's defender switch to the ball, player 5 should be open as she rolls to the basket.
  • Player 2 should be rotated to the top of the key to negate any fast break opportunities in transition.
Key Coaching Points
  • The inbounder (player 3) should "look away" the defense to help player 1 become open.
  • If the initial pass to player 1 is not open, player 2 should v-cut to the backcourt after setting the screen for player 1 and become the second option.
  • Player 3 should flash to the side corner after making the inbound pass. They may be wide open for a perimeter shot should player 1 and 5 be defended.
