Screen The Screener
Description

An easy inbound play from under your own basket that forces the defense to defend two consecutive screens to prevent your team from a good scoring opportunity.

Starting Positions
  • Player 3 is the inbounder.
  • Players 4 and 5 will setup just outside the key at low-block depth with player 4 on the ball-side.
  • Player 2 starts at the center of the foul line.
  • Player 1 starts at the wing opposite the inbound location.

  • Player 3 waits for her teammates to get into position before slapping the ball and yelling "Go!" to start the play.
  • Player 4 immediately pivots and sets a screen in the middle of the lane for player 2.
  • Player 2 rubs off of player 4's screen and cuts to the ball-side corner yelling "Ball! Ball! Ball". This is done primarily to get his defender to run to the corner with him.
  • After player 4 has set the initial screen, player 5 flashes to the lane and sets a screen for player 4 - screen for the screener.
  • As player 4 rubs off of player 5's screen and cuts to the far corner, the defense may overreact to player 4 allowing player 5 to reverse-pivot and seal his defender away from the inbound pass.
  • Player 3 makes the inbound bounce-pass to player 5 for the score
  • If this option is not available, player 1 who has cut ball-side to the 3-point line, is the safety-valve pass.
Key Coaching Points
  • Have your players practice getting into position for this play quickly. Most inbounds plays at the youth level fail because the inbounder starts the play before players are in position.
  • Player 3, the inbounder, must be patient as this play is relatively slow developing. Assure them that player 1 will always be open for the lob pass over the defense.
